Privacy Policy

me and time is a private diary for watching your own face change over time. It is built to keep your photos to yourself. This policy explains, plainly, what the app does and does not do with your information.

The short version: the app has no accounts and no servers we run. Your photos and notes never leave your device unless you deliberately export or save them. We do not collect, see, or transmit your data.

What we collect

Nothing. There is no sign-up, no login, and no analytics. We do not operate any server that your photos, notes, or usage could be sent to, and the app contains no advertising or third-party tracking software.

The app makes one connection of its own: on launch it asks its update service whether a newer version of the app's code is available. That request carries only the app's version and your device platform — never your photos, notes, or anything derived from your face.

Where your data lives

On your device only. Your selfies, journal notes, and the small index that orders them are stored in the app's private storage on your phone, protected at rest by your device's built-in encryption (which is active whenever your device has a passcode).
Your device backup. The app stores everything in its own private container. If you have iCloud device backup switched on, that container is carried in your device backup along with the rest of your phone, encrypted and held by Apple under your account — we have no access to it. The passphrase-encrypted backup file you can export from the app is the copy that is yours alone to move and keep.

Face data

The app can line your eyes up from photo to photo, so that scrubbing through your journal shows change rather than jitter. Here is exactly what that involves.

It happens on your device. After a photo is saved, Google's on-device face detection looks at that saved image and reports where the facial features are. The model runs entirely on your phone; the photo is never uploaded, and no network request is made to do it.
Only two points are kept. From that result the app keeps the position of your left eye and your right eye — four numbers, stored next to the photo in the app's local index on your phone. Nothing else is kept: no other facial points, no face outline, no head angles, no expression estimate.
No faceprint, no recognition. The app does not build a face template, faceprint, or any other biometric identifier, and does not recognise, match, verify, or identify anyone. Two eye positions cannot do that. Nor does the app analyse your photos for skin, health, age, mood, or appearance of any kind.
It never leaves your device. This data is not sent to us or to anyone else, is not shared with any third party, and is not used for advertising or analytics.
It lives and dies with the photo. The eye positions are kept for as long as you keep that photo. Delete the photo and they are deleted with it; delete the app and everything goes. They are included only in an encrypted backup file that you choose to create, which we never receive.
You can turn it off. Alignment is a setting in the app — switch it off and each photo is shown in its original framing.

Device permissions and why the app asks

Camera — to take your daily selfie. Photos are saved into the app's private storage, and are used on your device only, as described under “Face data” above.
Photo Library — only when you choose to import existing selfies into the journal, or to save a time-lapse video you export back to your Photos.
Notifications — only if you turn on the optional daily reminder. Reminders are scheduled locally on your device; nothing is sent to or from a server.
Face ID / biometrics — only if used to lock the app. Authentication happens entirely on your device; the app never receives your biometric data.

Exports and backups you create

You can create an encrypted backup of your journal and choose where to save it (for example Files, AirDrop, or your own cloud drive). This file is locked with a passphrase that only you hold and that is not recoverable. Once you move an exported backup or video off the app, where it goes and who can access it is up to you.

Purchases

Saving a time-lapse as a video is a one-time in-app purchase. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment details.

Children

The app is a personal journaling tool and is not directed at children. It collects no personal information from anyone.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
